The WWWiz Kid

by Parris Fallgatter

The World Wide Web is definitely a place for everyone. It's like a spider's web. You begin in the center and gradually work your way through, each section of the web branching out into many more sections, almost endlessly. You can go just about forever when cruising through the many passages of the World Wide Web. If you look up one item of interest, the Web not only supplies plentiful information on that particular subject, it also leads you to many different subjects that are somehow (either directly or indirectly) connected with your chosen piece of information. So you get a great deal of the information you requested (if it is found anywhere on the Web), plus much, much more! That's just what makes the World Wide Web so great.

This month's topic for young adults is extreme, or adventure, sports (as opposed to spectator sports). These sites include excellent information on these sports, including classes you can attend, prices, and places where the excitement happens.

To me these extreme sports seem like the most thrilling and exciting sports in the world! I've wanted to try them all, but I had no way of finding out any information on any of them. When I learned how to navigate the WWW, these were some of the first things I punched into Infoseek. Sure enough, there was everything I would ever want to know about each of these exciting sports. Here are some of the cool sites I found:

AdventureTime Magazine! Extreme sports, and a fitness magazine--brand new home page. Made 7/22/95!

This one covers everything! Bungee jumping, ice-skating, in-line hockey, in-line skating, skiing, martial arts, mountain biking, paddling, parasailing, road biking, rock climbing, sailboarding, scuba diving, sky diving, snow boarding, speed skating, and walleyball. (What's walleyball? Guess you'll just have to read and find out!)

Parasailing and bungee jumping

Kayaking, canoeing or rafting

For those who just aren't ready for extreme sports, though, check out Calvin and Hobbes.

This site contains dozens of neatly done, color pictures, and lots of great comic strips. There is all the information on Calvin and Hobbes you could ever want, plus all the names of Bill Watterson's (the guy behind the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip) popular cartoon books. One site on this list was even named "Cool Site of the Day" on September 21, 1994. If you ask me, I say it definitely deserves it. Make sure you definitely check this one out.

Follow some of the links throughout these sites and you will get to see other cool things. Remember: you never know where the Web is going to take you, so enjoy the adventure!
